The Demon Wastes
Level 5

Since we recently rescued Tendo and took care of his ring “situation”, he reluctantly agreed to either help us get back Woo’s stolen goods or find a teleportation scroll. Leaving him to this, we returned to Loris’ temple and were promptly attacked by a horde of vampires. They recognized us and mentioned the talisman. One of us figured out that they were followers of Arcturus DeFarrin, a famous vamp who has been so bold as to deny Sith (so probably powerful). After the battle, we delayed killing the last of them and questioned him about Arcturus. He is apparently Lord of Witherwood in the Shadowlands. The vamp is killed.

After talking to Alira, we found out that Arcturus and more vampires are in Leefields Park, and Arcturus wants the talisman for the Rotlord.

We rendezvoused with Tendo in the marketplace. He didn’t have the stolen goods, but did have a scroll with a linked portal to a sister guild in the south, the Shadowthieves. We would end up in the basement of the king. The guild, as you may guess, is connected to the shadows. It is in the Royal Kingdom, New Loria. Tendo gave his shadow magic cloak to Grisley, to help us cope with the crappy teleportation option he offered us. At least we did also get Tendo to do one more thing; he set up a meeting for us with the guildmaster to discuss Foo’s wares.

In between these meetings, we decided to check out the situation in Leefield’s Park. Most of us were adept at disguising ourselves to hide from the vampires which seemed to already know us. Nivieh, however, was not amenable to changing her natural appearance, so she went off back to the temple. Amidst many empty manors, one was full of vampiric activity. Too much for us to handle. We nonchalantly hurry from the scene.

Nivieh rejoined us and we waited at the inn until Rastoon (Lt. of the Evernights), Tendo, and a new halfling named Lenabo joined us. Grisley did his diplomasizing thing. We compromised with Lenado that in exchange for the goods, we will retrieve the contents of a tomb in the Forsaken Waste, and give him 1500gp from what we get there. He gave us a map.

Off to the tomb. Once we were directly above it on a cliff, an owl-bear and sadyrs attacked! No problem for us, of course.

Once in the tomb, some tieflings seemed to have a problem with our presence. Through great courage and ingenuity, they were slain. We found robes, barrels, and 500gp.

Then we entered a room containing demons, with three scattered elemental pits of fire, cold, and psychic powers. The demons managed to thwart our attempts to damage them with the elements by naturally resisting the first pit we pushed them into. But perseverance paid off, and they were no match for us. We found an awesome shield, and 1500gp, which was the amount of gold needed to buy the stolen goods from the thieves).

After traveling back to Moonshadow, we made our exchanges with the halflings. Grisley told Woo of our success in getting his stuff, and for him to send someone to get it. This was accomplished, and our reward was 250gp and a nonmagic ring with the insignia of the Amber guild.

The Gnoll Slavers
Level 5

Yinsa Woo approached us while we were eating at an inn after our first round of investigation into Moonshadow politics and treachery. He said he had just arrived from Oshikarra and was distraught over the capture of Hari Shi. He offered us a shuriken if we left immediately to rescue him. Of course, we accepted.

Before we left, Alira arrived and asked for our assistance on behalf of Falvian. Fortem agreed, naturally, and remained behind to aid Falvian and Alira.

Along the road out of Moonshadow, we encountered a tortured and mangled Oshikarran guard lying in a clearing. His tongue had been removed, so he could not warn us that we were entering an ambush, though we suspected as much. An archaevir was also being held captive by them, and when the gnolls attacked us, he broke free and joined the fight. We dispatched the gnolls and tended to the guard, who then led us to the gnolls’ lair. The archaevir joined us in slaying them.

The gnoll lair appeared to be a prison for their captives as well as an auction hall for selling them as slaves. Inside, we found Hari, two more Oshikarrans, and Tendo the former member of The Evernight Knives. We released Tendo in exchange for his drow-make dagger. We also took the Emberfey signet ring from him and returned it to the Emberfey family, landing a decent reward. Hoping our act of kindness would motivate Tendo not to cause us any more trouble, we did not implicate him in the theft. Hopefully we’ll never encounter Tendo again.

Hari helped us slay the leaders of the gnoll pack and we returned him to Moonshadow.

Needle in a Haystack
Level 4

Answering the call of the letter from Fin Woo, the party ran into Pel Shi, whose son had gone missing. The party put Pel Shi on hold while they discussed with Fin Woo why he had called upon the adventurers. Fin Woo informed the party that a few crates had been taken from one of his ships that had been carrying some cargo. He asked the group to assist him get rid of the guard captain Enwald Dren. Enwald is regarded to have obtained the position from Lord Earynbrand, governor of Moonshadow. The party agreed after receiving payment of 40 gold pieces and three pieces of amber (100 gp each) for a total payment of 340 gold. The party then proceeded outside to further discuss the situation of Pel Shi.

The party discovered that Pel Shi’s son had been abducted by gnolls while traveling along the eastern caravan route from Oshikarra with cargo, and the party agreed to help him find his son. The group decided to do some research by talking around town. From the account of the survivor of the attacks, two caravan guards were killed, five were captured as was Hari Shi and the caravan driver. They were attacked about six days normal travel northeast from Moonshadow (four days if horses were pushed to a grueling pace). Pel Shi has offered 300 gp for the safe return of his son and, if possible, the cargo.

The party then decided to further investigate the claims of Fin Woo, going to the docks to discuss the missing crates with the bosun of the ship. The bosun showed the group around the ship, where they discovered nothing of note other than biscuit crumbs that were apparently made of corn bread. The group hypothesized that the crumbs actually came from Adalbert Greenhand, who may or may not have been eating at that time, or sometime in the future. Leaving the docks area, where they were whistled at from a dark alley.

In the alley was, Tendo, a halfling who is a member of the Evernight Knives Thieves Guild. Tendo was trying to hire the party to dispose of a ring that had somehow cursed him. Tendo promised that properly disposing of the ring would bring attention to the party, and this attention would be worth the group’s time. Grisley Darkpurse noticed that the ring was a signet ring for the Emberfey family, an local syvlan elven family of stature. Tendo was also carrying a drow-made dagger that he was trying to use in order to broker a deal with the party. At this point, while Tendo was trying to convince the party to accept his quest, Rizzith cast darkfire upon him, causing him to run away in fear.

The bosun had indicated that the party searching the ship when the crates went missing was actually larger than it normally would be. So with this information, the party went in search of any members of the guard who may have been involved for more information. This search lead them to Frent, a seemingly upstanding guard member who apparently has a thing for drow. Grisely approached the man and his drinking party, introducing himself as Hobbit Guy and introduced Adalbert as Gnome Ear. Frent was more interested in Rizzith, however, so Grisley told Frent that he should make a move on Rizzith, which Frent did willingly. Grisley somehow managed to get Rizzith to play along and obtain some information while he chatted with Frent’s companions.

Shortly thereafter, the group decided to confront Enwald, so they decided to go to the constabulary. Grisley talked to the normal guards in a vain attempt to figure out where Enwald lived. During this, Adalbert was approached again by Tendo in order to undertake the task at hand, but Adalbert politely declined. While all of this was going on, Nivieh Desanti noticed Enwald Dren coming from the area that Adalbert had gone into in order to talk to Tedo. She whistled for the group, who reconvened in order to try to follow Enwald, but Adalbert lost him. The party asked around town, finding the location of Enwald’s house.

There, the party confronted Enwald, but the confrontation lead the party to believe that Enwald was not involved, but just lazy. As the group leaves the house, they notice shadows atop the houses in the area. One threatens the party, and as they duck into an alley, they are attacked. The team wipes out their ambushers, leaving several alive, and interrogating one of the attacking halflings, where they discover the halflings are members of the thieves’ guild. The guild is upset by the party’s actions and are threatened by what they are doing, so the guild tried to spook the party a bit to get them to stop their investigation. The party also discovers that Enwald is actually taking money from the guild as part of their schemes, and that they had stolen Fin Woo’s goods.

With the information gained from this, the party went to Earynbrand to discuss the situation. The party finds that Earynbrand is not involved, and cannot afford to boost the guard pay, and that the situation would just get worse if he had to also try to man the Paleblade’s Stronghold. If the stronghold was liberated, then some more funds could be diverted to ensuring the protection from the thieves. At this point, the party went and discussed the news with Fin Woo. Fin Woo is willing to pay for the party to complete the quest, that is, dispose Guard Captain Enwald Dren and recover Fin Woo’s cargo from the Evernight Knives and Enwald.

Beneath the Paleblade's Stronghold, part 2
level 4

Dave was absent this session. Ryan played Grisley.

Our adventure continued with a visit to the library. Unfortunately, it contained the crazy-ass wife of Sir Darian Paleblade, Valae Paleblade, who immediately tried to psych us out. Rizzith was able to save the day by rolling 2 crits (as well as 2 ones) in one turn. There was lots of dazing and general craziness, except that Rizzith remained sane. Fortem kept attacking allies. Sometimes he missed, though. Everyone almost died again. Rizzith used a healing potion to save Adalbert, who was 1 point and one death throw away from leaving us. All was well.

At the front of the room, a book about the Feywild lay open. It had some weird script on top of the original. It included info about drakefire, rituals, and what’s needed to restore the talisman. There’s something about a buried solar in a hillside. Nivieh also found a book on pyrotechnics. We think she may be a pyromaniac herself.

Back to Paleblade. Some Ephram guy wrote the book. Paleblade gave us some hints: Go to the Drakefire Forge in the Red Mountains (Rizzith knows that this is in Dorgar’s Hall), get a new stone from some antisocial high elves, and bathe the talisman in the light from weird bright angels that can be found in the hill we currently occupy (probably down the staircase we avoided).

Back to the red fungus, which is embermoss. GELATINOUS CUBE!

After the battle, we solved a sudoku-like puzzle about elements and win an arcane power jewel that Rizzith kept.

To the tentacled room. Saw bloated corpses and an otyugh. Fighting ensued. Unconsciousness and death saves followed. Fortem climbed out of the chamber and stealthily opened the door for us to depart this place.

Oh, the talisman was excited about something. Until we went up to the tower, anyway. Then it was sad. We saw some sort of beacon-type place up there.

Returned to Moonshadow. People gawked. We talked to the cleric Alira Gravewind and High Priest Falvian. Rizzith used her mad intimidation skills to get us some more healing potions. Everyone has two now.

We saw a Speak with Dead ritual performed by Falvian. The tortured Larek, who we previously killed, begged us to help him. With vague promises and threats, Rizzith got him to tell us that some other Sith followers are the Rot Lord in the Wraithfire Keep. We left him to return to his tortured afterlife.

Nivieh got a letter from Fin Woo. He’s paying us to go see him. He is a merchant of the Amber guild. He has boats.

We sold all our gemstones and trade items when we returned to Moonshadow. We are going to shop for items and ritual components for enchantments when we begin our next session.

The Orcs in the Stronghold
Level 3

We resumed the battle in the warehouse and encountered a warlock who was just about to sacrifice Grisley for his necromantic arts. We dispatched him in spite of yet another cloud of darkness, then we returned to the temple of Loris to report our success.

We rested for a couple days, healed Grisley, and purchased a new longsword for Fortem and a book of Enchant Magic Item. Falvian asked us to search for a way to restore the Talisman. He was going to give the Talisman to Nivieh, but Rizzith “convinced” him to give it to her.

We are off to seek information that could be used to restore Paleblade’s Talisman to some semblance of its former power. Having been housed at the now-abandoned keep, perhaps there will be some information there?

During our approach, Rizzith detected a weak aura around the Stronghold that matched that of the Talisman. We find that the Dig-Dug orcs have set up camp in the keep. Resistance at the front gate was put down fairly quickly, but not without some punishment.

More of the clan was found inside the main barracks. They will no longer have access to their spiritual leader…

The chieftain and his second-in-command had been exploring the tower; upon their return they too were dispatched. Trips to the bottom of the well should be made cautiously; the 2nd-in-command encountered an unpleasant terminus to his involuntary descent. Tentacles and teeth aplenty.

A secret passage was found beneath the altar in the main barracks; our last session closed as we began our confrontation with the true force behind the orcs.

The Cult in the Warehouse
Level 2

Dave was absent this session. Grisley was present up until the first encounter, during which he went missing for the remainder of the session.

We woke in the Farrowdowns to the smell of fresh cornbread. A crowd awaited us outside the hut of Lavender and her mother. They praised us and some of them asked us to escort them to Moonshadow. Along the way, we returned the boat we purchased from the farmer at the edge of the swamp. We paraded from the town gate to the temple of Lorus and presented them with the Paleblade’s Talisman. High Priest Falvian awarded us with 1 pp and 150 gp. The priest then explained to us that there could be a connection between the dragon we slew and Sith.

During this time, we noticed there were many mourners at the temple. Several of them approached us, and we learned that many people near the docks had been going missing suddenly. We also met one of Nivieh’s friends, Kenna, from Destiny’s Hearth, the Temple of Delphi Trine, who claimed that the High Seer wanted to speak with her. Grisley and Nivieh went with her, and Adalbert talked his way into accompanying them. Nivieh noted that her friend was acting suspicious, but too late, because we were then attacked by two thugs and Kenna, who we later discovered was a doppelganger. Nivieh and Adalbert were quickly defeated. Nivieh was taken prisoner, Adalbert was left for dead, and the fate of Grisley was unknown. Rizzith and Fortem came across an unconscious and bloody Adalbert in an alley. They returned to the Temple of Lorus and met up with Alira Gravewind. She took them to Destiny’s Hearth where we encountered Kenna once again, but she had been performing rituals there all day. Then, the High Seer received a vision of Nivieh being taken to a warehouse near the docks.

Meanwhile, Nivieh was trapped in a cell in a basement. The guards outside made reference to a ritual of which she was an essential part. After they left, an Angel of Fate named Saelee appeared to Nivieh in her cell and said she had been chosen to be a prophet of Delphi Trine. Saelee then set up a quicksilver scrying pool through which Nivieh was able to see her allies.

Adalbert, Fortem, Rizzith, and Alira, with the help of the priest’s vision and some Streetwise expertise, tracked down the warehouse where Nivieh was being held. Adalbert reconnoitered that the front door was guarded, so the party scaled the building and defenestrated ourselves Batman style into the rear of the building. As they battled the guards, Nivieh, in her cell, discovered she could influence the battle through the angel’s scrying pool. We quickly dispatched them with Nivieh’s aid and freed her from her cell. On our way back out, we were ambushed by more guards which nearly resulted in the deaths of Rizzith and Alira, probably because we had no windows to jump through this time.

We ended the session there and will resume in media res next time. Experience for this session will be awarded after we complete the adventure in the next session.
